A boost for development activities related to tourism in the Ampara district is on the cards with UPFA Parliamentarian and the Chairman of the district coordinating committee Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara taking a keen interest.
During a meeting with the Chamber of Tourism and Industry president A.M.Jaufer in Colombo recently Rear Admiral Weerasekara also said he would take up the matter with Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and international donor agencies to implement suitable proposals.
The end of the war has given a new face to tourism in the Eastern Province. The number of foreign and local visitors coming to Arugam Bay Sale erexin-v , Passikudah and Nilaveli has increased in the recent past.
Mr. Jaufer also submitted proposals to Rear Admiral Weerasekara regarding various development activities in the Eastern Province.
Among the proposals are developing inland fishing in Senanayake Samudra, Irakkamam Kulam, Ampara Kulam and Periya Kulam, at Akkaraipattu, Addalaichchenai and the lagoons at Buy apcalis online Pottuvil and Panama.
The reconstruction of the Kalmunai rest house which was affected by the war, standardization of hotels in the area, awareness programme among the fishing community in the region and the construction of a railway line from Batticaloa to Arugam Bay are among the other proposals.
Rear Admiral Weerasekara also said he had requested the Tourist Board to appoint a committee to recommend development activities related to tourism in the AmparaA?district.
