Arugambay is just too good to let go! Be sure youa??ve been there!!

Arugambay

a??a?? on the East Coast of Sri Lanka used to be a laid back, dreamily indolent sort of locale where fishermen pursued their trade far from the madding bustle of urban zestfulness and commercial excessa??a??a??a??. It still is that way!

photo used by ATaT

But it certainly has jumped into the tourism map of the world with the outstanding holiday experience that it offers.A? For one, it is ranked one of the Top 10 surfing beaches in the world. Arugambay Point, Pottuvil point, Peanut Farm, Kormari and Panama are now buzzwords (buzz places!) among the avid of surfersa?? community worldwide.

However, Arugambay is a great deal more than bronzed physiques in motion raising the crystalline sand or cruising perilously over the ocean swells. Imagine the sheer joy one feels encountering Dolphins in their cheering habitat!!A? For that is exactly what becomes possible to visitors in the season of September.

On shore and inward from the coast, the allure of the wild continues to delighta??a??

For here, the inner yearning of the human spirit to know the confluence it possesses with naturea??s bounty in birds in their natural space by the lagoon and to Purchase toradol injection observe elephants as they roam nonchalantly in front of Crocodile Rock, finds fulfillment. Indeed, Arugambay nestles on the edge of a verdant forest reserve.

“Paradise is Arugam Bay”

……… On to happier things.

I want you all to know that I have found Paradise, and ita??s only three hours south of me.

One of the beach huts at the Beach Hut

Last week I went with some friends to Arugam Bay. A tiny village in the far south-east of the island, Arugam Bay is located right on the beach, and is world famous among the surfing set for its perfect waves. A mix of Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim, the place escaped the worst aspects of the war. I had heard about this near-mythical tropical paradise, but had never been. It exceeded every expectation I had.

Arugam Bay is not a tourist place. There arena??t any tourist-level facilities available, and anyway the place is so remote that few tourists would want to take the very long journey from Colombo. Ita??s the kind of place that hippy surfers love; shacks on the beach, fresh fish on the grill over an open fire, ice cold beer, local recreational herb, lovely ladies, and a population that is as relaxed and kick-back as they are.

We stayed at a place called Beach Hut, run by an extraordinary man named Range (RAN-geh). A man of middle age and middle height and stature, Range has a scraggly beard and long hair, which he keeps in a topknot. He only ever seems to wear a sarong and thata??s it. He looks like he could be some wandering Hindu holy man. Tamils tend to be very loud and expressive in their conversation, but Range is surprisingly soft-spoken. But most amazing are his eyes. I got the distinct impression that, the first time he looked at me, he saw into me and instantly knew everything there is to know. It would have been really unnerving except that you also somehow know that he does it with a complete lack of judgment, that your personality, your secrets, whatever, to him are mere facts and dona??t inform his opinion of you. Ia??ve met very few people like this before, and I find them not only intriguing, but very wise, in an earthy, organic, non-intellectual way. Hea??s really a most impressive man.

It turns out that he and I have four unrelated groups of friends in common. In fact, one of my friends had mentioned a??my American friend Bennett who you should meeta?? to him last year. It also turns out that, like me, he loves to cook. So we quickly became friends.

My friends at play in the water. I stayed in the shade.

Beach Hut is literally a small set of wooden shacks directly on the beach. Some of them are up on stilts, with hammocks slung below. All of them are located in a grove of pine-like trees, giving the whole setup a lovely cool green feel. Ia??m not a beach person; having grown up in Southern California, I know beaches, and am actually a bit paranoid about skin cancer. So I spent my afternoons in the hammock, listening to the surf, sipping lassie (a type of sweet milkshake made from water buffalo yogurt), slipping in and out of sleep, and letting my mind wander. In other words, complete relaxation. In the evening, when the sun was less intense, wea??d all take straw mats out onto the beach, and hang out until dinner was ready. The entire day we heard nothing other than the birds and the waves. No phones, no motorcycles, no radio, none of that.

OK, so the place is like the Land of the Lotus Eaters in Homera??s a??Odysseya?? I can easily see myself going there and never being able to leave. As it was, just a couple of days and I had to positively tear myself away and return to Batti. It was like emerging from one of those deep sleeps where you feel like youa??re swimming to the surface of a deep lake. Wow.

Laurie Anderson, the avant-garde performance artist has a line a??Paradise is exactly like where you are right nowa?? only much, much better.a?? After last week, Ia??d have to disagree with her. Buy nizagara tablets Order pilex Paradise is Arugam Bay. ………

Sarah & Stu’s Arugam Bay adventures

Point Breaks and Machine guns Fosamax price in pakistan

Ia??m not going to lie to you, ita??s been a surreal 48 hours. We left Unawatuna and Shangri la, our tropical garden paradise with slightly heavy hearts and, Ia??ll be honest, a bit of a hangover.A? The night before we left Sarah left me in the company of two NGO types and a bottle of Arrack (coconut scotch) and a bottle of vodka. A lot of storytelling later I rolled into bed and snored my way through the four hours left til dawn and the seven hour trip to Arugam Bay. We were packed on our way by Nanda, a very sweet guy who lost his wife in the tsunami and struggles to earn enough money to pay his chef Charmin each day. He got up at 0430 and made us papaya salad with chilli and cucumber for our journey. Herea??s a photo of this lovely man in his restaurant cum grocery store (something akin to the Falafel King for just what oddities he sells for those of you who are familiar).

Arugam’s surfers may get wildcards into 6 Star WQS..

How much metformin can you take daily Sri Lankan Airlines ProA?

ASP 6 Star WQS Men’s event
Arugam Bay Sri Lanka
18 – 24 June 2010A?

Sri Lankan surfers to get wildcards into

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 31 March, 2010 : – – The Surfing Sri Lanka movement recently created by the new Surfing Federation of Sri Lanka, received a major boost today when it was confirmed by the ASP that 2 local Sri Lankan surfers will benefit from wildcard entries into the first major Association of Surfing Professionals international tour event to ever be staged in the country’s history.
A?
The 6 Star WQS Sri Lankan Airlines Pro to be held on Sri Lanka’s east coast at the world famous Arugam Bay between 18 – 24 June will now see some local surfers strutting their stuff amongst the world’s best contenders on the WQS circuit. Two Sri Lankan surfers will gain entry to the elite event as part of the ASP’s strategy to assist and promote local surfing at a variety of surfing locations worldwide.
A?
It is proposed that the Surfing Sri Lanka Trials event will be conducted the day prior to the main ASP event start in order to select 8 local surfers who will then surf-off in two x 4 man elimination heats. The first and second place-getters of each elimination heat will then advance to a “4 man mini final” on the first day of the WQS event to decide who will get the 2 wildcards on offer.

First and second place winners from the mini final will receive the 2 wildcards and enter the main event draw with all of the other international surfers there to contest the 6 Star Pro at A Bay. The Trials event is open to all male Sri Lankan surfers and registration for the Surfing Sri Lanka Trials event will be conducted during the week of the WQS and the Surfing Federation’s first AGM at Arugam Bay.
A?
Surfing Sri Lanka spokesman Peter Rob-o, is encouraging all surfers from around Sri Lanka to attend this very important week of ground-breaking surfing events to be staged at A Bay between 15 – 24 June. Surfing Sri Lanka (the marketing and promotional arm of the new Surfing Federation) will conduct the Trials event with the A Bay Surfing Club, long known for their ability to coordinate surfing activities on this coast.

Chairman of the A Bay Club, Fawas Lafeer, was ecstatic about the news and the recent developments made by Surfing Sri Lanka to get surfing organised and focused around the country for the first time.
A?
The inclusion of two of Sri Lanka’s finest young surfers in the WQS Pro event is going to drive the performance levels higher than ever seen before and fuel the new resurgence of interest in Sri Lankan surfing.A? Local A Bay surfers such as Sri Lanka’s number one competitive surfer Asanka, who has a guesthouse on the famous pointbreak and has grown up in these waves all of his life, must certainly loom as a threat to the international contingent of surfers.

Through Asanka’s sheer local knowledge of the break, he will definitely be one of the surfers to watch. Adjustment to the ASP scoring criteria perhaps his only real threat to a possible victory on home turf or perhaps one of the other A Bay locals fired up to impress may also stand in his way. Surfers such as local young gun Siril Pranith who has been charging lately or Milan or one of the many other A Bay local surfers.
A?
A surprise could even be in store for the local Arugam surfers. The very strong surfing contingent from the south coast area of Hikkaduwa lead by local surfing identity Mambo Thushara and his brother Babaya or Gallamalli, will be there in force contesting the wildcard entries on offer from the ASP and thus continuing the age-old rivalry between these two powerhouse clubs of Sri Lankan surfing. Both clubs will be determined to show who is Top Dog at the Surfing Sri Lanka Trials event.
A?
One thing is for sure, when 18 – 24 June rolls around, the Arugam Bay area is going to really come to life when it hosts Surf Week on the Sapphire Isle and surfing in Sri Lanka will, by karma and destiny, never be the same again.

Cerveceria Modelo to invest in Arugam Bay

Top selling Mexican beers to be produced in Eastern Sri Lanka
(CORONA is slightly less popular since end 2019)

Corona (Corona Extra) is a brand of pale lager owned and produced by Cerveceria Modelo in Mexico. It is the top-selling beer in Mexico and is one of the top selling beers worldwide.[2] Corona beer is available in over 150 countries. All  Corona beer is brewed and bottled in one of 7 Modelo Breweries in Mexico.
So far, pre 2019…

Corona Extra. The Mexican top selling beer

Outside of Mexico, Corona is to be slightly renamed and will be produced in a new brewery to be constructed at Arugam Bay. A world famous Surf spot and upcoming tourist resort situated in the deep South East of remote Sri Lanka.

To distinguish the new Sri Lanka Export product from the original Mexican label, and in recognition and celebration of local achievements following the end of the long ongoing conflict in Sri Lanka, the following brand name has been proposed:

Caruna Extra. Export to Asian markets only

For this purpose the Mexican global leaders have teamed up with the award winning, but widely unknown Arugam Bay Surfer’s Beer label under an agreement with the Sri Lanka Government and its Board of Investment Authority.

Cerveceria Modelo’s chairman Senioria Condolenzza Gogonzola stated that the Company has welcomed branching out to new markets in the East.
Corona is a traditional Cult Beer favored by young, active people and is popular with modern party people.
As world economies are shifting to India, China and Russia it makes no longer sense to ship containers of beer half way around the globe. Continue reading ‘Cerveceria Modelo to invest in Arugam Bay’

Classic Dox – Adrift in Sri Lanka On air: 5 February 2010 13:20 – 1 March 2010 13:20

Producer Marijke van der Meer was holidaying in Sri Lanka when disaster struck in December 2004. Her personal report from one of the country’s devastated towns told of the harrowing situation there and the desperate need for aid.

Award winning (Re-) Broadcast on 1st March, 2010 How to order allopurinol online
In the southeastern Sri Lankan coastal town of Pottovil – a town with an ethnic mix of Singhalese and Tamils, Muslims and Buddhists – a golden statue of Buddha stares serenely over Arugam Bay. The bay was a Mecca for surfers, who stayed in guesthouses with names such as Chill Space Surf, Hideaway, Aloha and even the Tsunami Beach Hotel. The statue of Buddha is one of the few fully intact constructions in this demolished town where a thick layer of muddy dirt covers the ground.

Destruction and death

Arugam Bay after Tsunami 2004

Soldiers look on as bulldozers shove aside trees and bricks from destroyed dwellings. The bodies of some 1,000 people – killed within a few seconds of the tsunami – have been recovered. But there are many others missing and many families who have no roofs over their heads and are in so-called ‘collection centres’.

The medical situation is critical in this isolated district, where several people are saying that they feel neglected by the authorities because Continue reading ‘Classic Dox – Adrift in Sri Lanka On air: 5 February 2010 13:20 – 1 March 2010 13:20’
