A: I hope this surfing event and beach festival will create awareness among European travelers that the East coast has bounced back for their leisure once again and further it will be a good opportunity to regain and revive our much affected truisms industry. Tourism Development at Arugambay
Developing tourism at Arugambay and Eastern province, I wish to mention that Eastern province is having wider region for tourism development area spanning Nillaveli beach to Arugambay beach with rich natural attractions and potentials.

Tourist can view elephants at Lahugala, birds and various wild life animals in Kumana Natural Park within 60 minutes driving from Arugambay. I strongly suggest ArugambayA? need sustainable tourism development , because there are enough resources potential, natural environment and best romantic locations, as refers before/earlier we need tourism development that avoid damages to the environment, economy, culture of the locations and eco-system where it take place.
The aim of the sustainable tourism is to ensure that development is a positive experience for local people. Traditional beaches and sight seeing tourism is vital to Sri Lanka communities surrounds the hotels and the other tourism area. Developing a sustainable tourism industry to Arugambay, gain maximum economic and the other benefits and to meet the challenges faced by the region.
Tourism authority must establish the foundation and direction for a focused, co-ordination and united approach to the future development of tourism and develop strengthen industry, take local organization linkage before planning any tourism development activities such as coordination from provincial council, local council (Pradeshya Sabha), community leaders from all communities and divisional secretarial and politician.

The sun shone, the surf pumped and this intrepid crew took up the challenge to paddle to Croyde bay from Saunton Sands in aid of the charity project Paddle4relief.
Paddle4Relief was formed shortly after the 2004 Asian Tsunami.A? Every year since the disaster, the local North Devon based charity hold a sponsored paddle and form a circle of remembrance, at Saunton Beach, for the forgotten victims. The monies raised go towards empowering the local community of Arugam Bay, a village on the south east coast of Sri Lanka, regularly visited by P4R Founder, Tim Tanton.

(0)Three kitesurfers brave a long journey to cruise in Arugam Bay. Was it worth it? Definitely. With an early morning surfing session under our belt, the wind stared to pick by 11 AM enabling us to pump our kites and rock on when the rest of the bay was relaxing. 
It truly was beautiful, the turquoise blue water, the waves and raw scenery of Arugam Bay gave us a glimpse of heaven. The ideal wave riding conditions were exploited to the maximum by us.
We did also glimpse another French kitesurfer who 
went down wind over the bend at Pottuvil Point. Not sure how he got back . The winds did pick to around 30 knots in the evening. Our 9M kites seem to utterly overpowered in those strong winds.

Tsunami Warning system Arugam Bay Hill
As usual, fears of another Tsunami surfaced. Some ran away into the opposite direction. Just as they did end of 2004, towards Lahugala.
Arugam.info still maintains a highly efficient Early Warning System. Due to our own strong Thai connections we receive very quick and first hand warnings directly from the world’s most advanced centre at Silom Road, Bangkok.
There was not a hint of danger – so our sirens were not activated.
However, we are also informed that a mast (see photo) has recently been erected on the hill overlooking the Bay. It is however not known to us if this system is active and tested so far.
Our own opinion:

The ONLY real answer is: Build Tsunami resistant structures.
Or construct low level dwellings well away from the sea as indicated by the Government 100 or 200 Meter zone, earlier.
Do NOT reconstruct low level, low quality buildings near the sea front! As this will endanger the life and security of residents and visitors in future.A? For sure.

I just returned to Arugam Bay from Colombo. I left at 07:00am and landed around 16:00hrs. non stop in my rattling old rusty VW van. In the capital city interest in the East Coast has increased. Many guys asked to visit Arugam Bay in April. They have one full week off! Poya day (9), Good Friday (10), Easter weekend, Tamil & Singhala New year (13 & 14).
Driving along the A4 as usual I received a few calls from my new Colombo friends. The usual questions: Is it safe, what is the security situation like etc.
Therefore, here is one further word of advice:
All is VERY safe! Do come. We have NO problem here in the Bay or on its approach roads!
But: If oncoming traffic, day or night is flashing at you. Anywhere after Simbalanduwa.
No! There are NO speed checks at Lahugala!
(The last 40km are too bad for that anyhow)
It most likely is the odd elephant on or near the (unfenced) road, the main A4.
Back off. Show them respect: And all all is well.
They simply disappear into the forrest.
