USAID to Invest US $50 Million over a Five-Year Period to Improve Access and Availability to Family Planning
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 20 Where can i buy shatavari /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced that Family Health International (FHI) — a global public health and development organization — will lead a major family planning research project known as PROGRESS (Program Research for Strengthening Services).
The project will generate knowledge and awareness about family planning programs that can be adopted by health systems in developing countries. This initiative will focus on identifying the need for new or improved family planning methods for individuals and communities, providing increased access to contraceptive services, and strengthening the capabilities of health researchers — and those in a position to apply new knowledge — in developing countries. The goal is to improve the quality of reproductive health services by ensuring that programs around the world draw on the best available scientific evidence.
As the largest ever generation of young people enters their reproductive years, PROGRESS will play an important role in helping them reach their goals by making contraceptive methods more accessible and available. Some 150 million couples in the developing world say they would prefer to plan their births but are not currently using family planning. Ultimately, the aim of the project is to apply research to ensure longer, healthier lives for some of the world’s poorest women and children.
USAID has pledged up to US $50 million to this project, to be allocated over a five-year period. To ensure that research addresses the issues that are most important to the people who need these services, FHI will collaborate with researchers, program managers, and policymakers in governmental and non-governmental agencies in a number of countries.
“Scientific research can help governments and public health organizations figure out what works,” says Ward Cates, MD, MPH, President of Research at FHI. “The PROGRESS project encourages research that gives policymakers practical guidelines for things they can do to meet increasing demand and provide access to a variety of high quality family planning methods.”
Project Director of PROGRESS, Maggwa Baker Ndugga, MD, MS, agrees. “This project provides us with an important opportunity to reposition family planning as a major focus of international public health research,” he said. “One key goal is to improve the quality of reproductive health programs by implementing the best family planning research possible.”
USAID and FHI will select a set of “focus countries” for PROGRESS in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Latin America for greater emphasis, but the effects of the knowledge generated will be wide reaching.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the vast majority of maternal deaths could be prevented if women had access to quality family planning and reproductive health services. More than half a million women die from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth every year, and approximately 10 million suffer related injury or infection.
The U.S. Agency for International Development administers the U.S. foreign assistance program providing economic and humanitarian assistance in more than 120 countries worldwide.
Family Health International: Family Health International (FHI) has been at the forefront of international public health initiatives since 1971. With a staff of 2,200 working in more than 65 countries, FHI manages innovative research and programs that address the most pressing health needs of the developing world — HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment; reproductive health; malaria; tuberculosis; avian influenza as well as other chronic and infectious diseases. This work is made possible by our close partnerships with our funding partners, host-country governments, non-governmental organizations, research institutions and universities, community- and faith-based groups, and private-sector organizations.

A water distribution project for the Ampara Districts of the Eastern Province is to get underway with the assistance of United States Agency for International Development Agency (USAID) and the international relief organization AmeriCares.A Memorandum of Understanding with regard to the project was signed between the two organizations on June 17.
The completed project will serve an estimated 2,400 inhabitants in the Arugam Bay Dapoxetine overnight delivery area by distributing clean and safe drinking water directly to the people.
Immediately following the 2004 tsunami the Government identified a number of sectors and specific projects in critical need of donor assistance and funding. One of the identified human health needs was the challenge of providing safe drinking water for several eastern region communities, including the Arugam Bay area. The wells serving this community were mostly open, which had been overtopped and polluted by the large waves when they hit the eastern shore.
The financial grant of one million US dollar provided by AmeriCares will be added to USAID’s already committed 6 million US dollar investment in wells, transmission lines, treatment plant and a large elevated storage tank to assure new safe water sources for the beneficiary community.

A?A?A? Here is a storyA?A?A? which tells us the importance of green grass.Once there was a kingdom called Mithilapuri. The King Janakamaharajan ruled the kingdom well.He used to feed the people whoever comes to him.But he had a bad nature that he never used to believe in God.
A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A?A? Lord Ganesha wanted to test the king.So he came in disguise of a poor Brahmin with lepersy disease all over his bodyA?A?A? in a very bad condition. The king saw the brahmin and asked his son to feed the brahmin. The brahmin was given lots of food ,but that was not sufficient to satisfy his hunger.

The King was not knowing how to please the Brahmin. So he told him politely to go to some other house where he could satisfy his hunger. So the Brahmin enters a poor manA?a??A?s house and askA?A?A? the couple there who were doing puja to give him food.A?A?A? The couple were feeling bad as they had nothing other than the green grass which they offeredA?A?A? Lord Ganesha. The Brahmin asked them to give that to him as he chewed the grass his hunger disappeared.

I first saw Nate Berkus about 4 years ago on Oprah. This particular show was focused on the terrible aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Like the rest of the world, I was overwhelmed by the devastation caused to many different countries and thousands of people. I grew up on an island so it was hard for me to watch the news reports.
Oprah started to talk to an attractive man seated next to her, who she introduced as her interior designer, Nate. He and his long time companion, Fernando Bengoechea, were swept away from their rented cottage located on a famous surfing beach close to Arugam Bay near Sri Lanka. Berkus survived. His beloved Fernando did not.
I was emotionally affected by NateA?a??a??s recounting of his loss. Here was this gay man who had just had the love of his life taken away from him. I had almost lost my Gary around the same time period. It was not to a monstrous ocean wave but to something just as horrifying- cancer. Gary survived.
I have watched NateA?a??a??s career grow over the years, especially within the Oprah organization. He has his own radio show on Sirius radio. His world renown interior design business Nate Berkus and Associates is one of the most innovative and respected firms of its kind in the nation.
Part of their philosophy:
A?a??A?A?a??A?It is imperative to Nate Berkus Associates that their clients identify with their environment and as a result, become comfortable in their finished project. This principal philosophy of understanding leading to contentment is what sets Nate Berkus Associates apart.A?a??A? ( Firm Overview, www.nateberkus.com).
He has also been featured regularly on her show and in her magazine.
Throughout the time period following the tsunami, I have seen Nate embrace life, show charity and become a real strength to those around him. There is no bitterness in his voice. There are no fists raised in anger towards the heavens. There is no wallowing in self pity.
