Arugam Bay is on the list of the top ten surf points in the world. Situated on the South East side of Sri Lanka Arugam Bay receives the same Antarctic winter swell’s that hit Indonesia in the in the middle of the year. The best time of the year is between May and November when the predominant wind is offshore for at least the first half of the day.

I’ll have the lobster…

The other day we had a birthday on the team, so we surprised Steven with a lobster dinner at a local restaurant. It was 650 rupies…which is about $6 in the US. We also had a local bakery bake a cake (which had the worst frosting I have ever tasted) but it was a great night to all be together, celebrate someone’s life and all that God is doing in and through us!!!

Yesterday we held the first annual Aloha Surf Classic here in Arugam Bay for only local surfers. We worked in conjunction with the Arugam Bay Surf Association (a group of local guys here in town) and the contest was awesome!!! Continue reading ”

A different take on the reef is given by Gold Coast surfers who put the idea of a reef down to Ken Lambert a Gold Coast electrician who dreamed that it might be possible to create a break like Arugam Bay Cheap ceftin antibiotic side in Sri Lanka.

TORBAY surfer Gary Wells is preparing to compete in his first ever UK Pro Surf Tour Champion of Champions contest in Sri Lanka later this month.

Faith Kiteboarding cruise Arugam Bay!

Three kitesurfers brave a long journey to cruise in Arugam Bay. Was it worth it? Definitely. With an early morning surfing session under our belt, the wind stared to pick by 11 AM enabling us to pump our kites and rock on when the rest of the bay was relaxing.

It truly was beautiful, the turquoise blue water, the waves and raw scenery of Arugam Bay gave us a glimpse of heaven. The ideal wave riding conditions were exploited to the maximum by us.

We did also glimpse another French kitesurfer who went down wind over the bend at Pottuvil Point. Not sure how he got back . The winds did pick to around 30 knots in the evening. Our 9M kites seem to utterly overpowered in those strong winds.

June to July is the season for water sports here and thousands of foreigners come here to enjoy this excellent beach. It is a great place to enjoy water currents as well as strong winds!

Kitesurf Sri Lanka goes to Arugam Bay!

With 9M2, 12M2 and a 14M2 kite loaded in the car, we headed 300 odd KM’s to the Bay of Arugam. Unfortunately the weather Gods were playing tricks on us, one minute blowing gentle puffs while the next gale force winds blowing at 30 knots plus! Yohan had fun with his trainer kite until the line snapped due to the strong wind! What else to do other than Surf till you drop dead. Arugam Bay was not quite season in full swing with none of the shore breaks functioning. It was only the main point with its super sharp coral that left us sliced quite a bit – battle scars we call them. Arugam Bay is certainly a lovely place. A bit hyped too much that we actually were expecting something else. Nevertheless, now we know, and one thing is sure, the kitesurfers will be there in May, June and July when the Winds pick up!

Short cut to Arugam Bay

The above photo was taken on the road between Lahugala ending up in the middle of Arugam Bay. This road totally avoids PottuVille town and does NOT cross the new so-called “High Tech” USAID bridge as it leads around the east of the lagoon.
(It does NOT cross any rivers either. Further questions the need for a 14Mill$ bridge)
A nice alternative, saving time and much more appealing than the slow transit thru PottuVille.
