#03 Galaxy Lounge

Hotel in Arugambay Sri Lanka – #03 Galaxy Lounge –

Arugambay is a lot like Hikkaduwa. The accomodation is cheap but the majority of places are holes. They have fancy names (#39 Hillton!) and big, digitally printed signboards but are still holes.

Originally, when we decided to go there for the long, long weekend, I’d booked into Ranga’sA? #05 Beach Hut. When my wife found out Ranga’s had shared bathrooms, she had a fit, called me unspeakable names, names a wife should just not call a husband, and booked a place she found on the web called Galaxy Lounge. Kitesurf Sri Lanka goes to Arugam Bay!

With 9M2, 12M2 and a 14M2 kite loaded in the car, we headed 300 odd KM’s to the Bay of Arugam. Unfortunately the weather Gods were playing tricks on us, one minute blowing gentle puffs while the next gale force winds blowing at 30 knots plus! Yohan had fun with his trainer kite until the line snapped due to the strong wind! What else to do other than Surf till you drop dead. Arugam Bay was not quite season in full swing with none of the shore breaks functioning. It was only the main point with its super sharp coral that left us sliced quite a bit – battle scars we call them. Arugam Bay is certainly a lovely place. A bit hyped too much that we actually were expecting something else. Nevertheless, now we know, and one thing is sure, the kitesurfers will be there in May, June and July when the Winds pick up!

Tsunami Warning system Arugam Bay Hill

As usual, fears of another Tsunami surfaced. Some ran away into the opposite direction. Just as they did end of 2004, towards Lahugala.
Arugam.info still maintains a highly efficient Early Warning System. Due to our own strong Thai connections we receive very quick and first hand warnings directly from the world’s most advanced centre at Silom Road, Bangkok.
There was not a hint of danger – so our sirens were not activated.
However, we are also informed that a mast (see photo) has recently been erected on the hill overlooking the Bay. It is however not known to us if this system is active and tested so far.
Our own opinion:
Clonidine depression treatment The next real Tsunami will come! The question is: When?
The ONLY real answer is: Build Tsunami resistant structures.
Or construct low level dwellings well away from the sea as indicated by the Government 100 or 200 Meter zone, earlier.
Do NOT reconstruct low level, low quality buildings near the sea front! As this will endanger the life and security of residents and visitors in future.A? For sure.

(Text by BEVERLEY JANSZ) The sunny golden beaches of Arugambay in Sri Lankaa??s East Coast, which was almost devoid of tourists for the last 20 years due to the ethnic conflict, has come alive again. It is back to sun, sea and sand for both foreign and local tourists in their numbers in the wake of the Governmenta??s peace initiative.

Chairman, Arugambay Beach Resort, Dr. Param sothi, who built the resort over 20 years ago, but was unable to even visit it for over 10 years due to the ethnic war, was all smiles and showed signs of relief. Continue reading ‘#04 Arugam Beach Resort’

Arugam will be better planned than Hikkaduwa

Development of eco-friendly tourist resorts from Kokilai (Kukulawa) to Kumana and Pothuvil along the eastern sea coast will be developed as the first step to encourage local tourists who were deprived of entering these areas, he said.

People would get an opportunity to enjoy the best beaches in Passikudah, Arugam Bay, Nilaweli, Marble Beach and enjoy water sports and watch marine life, fish, whales, birds and enjoy their leisure after the development of tourism activities were over, he said.

It will be certainly the beginning of another chapter for the people in these areas, unlike in Hikkaduwa where tourism was not properly planned when the tourist industry was first started. Continue reading ‘Arugam will be better planned than Hikkaduwa’

Sandhill, which is well known as a??Aamaraputtya?? in Pottuvil is an amazing place to see. The attractive is coming through to this site by its phenomenal height and some of the natural features such as trees and sand hills.

First thing first, since it was a great place, most of the local people get together in their special days to celebrate the day. Many people still amazed at the giant built of this sandhill. But, nowadays there are some concerns over this phenomenal place, where sand mining is takes place, by this Sandhill faces the vulnarabilites to exist. There are plenty of measures already taken by local authority to control sand mining. Natural wonders should be protected unless we might face some Tsunani like devastation as this sandhill was been a barrier wall for 2004 December Tsunami hit the island and made several devastation through out the Pottuvil village.

Here are some important facts about Sandhill

of the most exquisite moonstone carvings in Sri Lanka. The above information was found in a rock inscription dating back to the 14th century AD. You will be amazed by the extent of the ruins and their exquisite design.
Arugam Bay is well known among the serious surfing community, but the perfect wave is only one of its attractions. Dolphin pods, beloved of the local fisherman, often play in the bay, and the surrounding country is thick with wildlife, birds and extensive monastic ruins. Sastharvila, Kudumbigala, Muhudu Maha Vihara and

Tarulengala are ancient Buddhist ruins in the vicinity dating back from the timeless past. Nearby Okanda, an important (though isolated) Hindu shrine, is on the pilgrim route from Jaffna in the north to Kataragama. Okanda is also the gateway to famous Kumana Villu, where water birds nest, and the Yala east national park with miles of unexplored golden beaches.

Short cut to Arugam Bay

The above photo was taken on the road between Lahugala ending up in the middle of Arugam Bay. This road totally avoids PottuVille town and does NOT cross the new so-called “High Tech” USAID bridge as it leads around the east of the lagoon.
(It does NOT cross any rivers either. Further questions the need for a 14Mill$ bridge)
A nice alternative, saving time and much more appealing than the slow transit thru PottuVille.

I mentioned that you will see the best of the beaches in Sri Lanka in the East in one of my earlier posts – Komari. You will see what I mean if you go to Arugam Bay, which is regarded as one of the best beaches in the world. This is situated close to Potuvil town and it is famous for water sports as well. June to July season is ideal for surfing.

The sun rise at Arugam Bay is one of the most beautiful sceneries and it is truly magical! The colours of the sky makes a picturesque sight in the eastern sky while the sun rises above the horizon.

Tim's Paddle4Relief

Paddle4relief continues to focus its energy in Arugam Bay Buy zofran online without prescription Caverta online pharmacy primarily due to the safety issues in going further north to engage in projects. The village remains a safety bubble in this turbulent country.A? Major projects are being carried out by the Government and large NGOa??s. However, there are still numerous smaller projects required. Whilst a huge water treatment plant has been built, and completed in July 2008, the local people are still without mains water. Even when it arrives, it arrives at a cost! Individual households have to apply for water supply from the mains pipes laid along the roads. The charge for connection is expected to be between RS3000 (A?18) and RS15000 (A?90.91). The lower fee for those that were severely affected by the tsunami, with the charge being greater for those being less affected and with the highest charge for those not affected at all.A? They will have to pay a monthly charge plus what level of usage in litres. The majority of the villagers I spoke to say they cannot afford to pay the connection fee, and will continue to use the supply from the wells on their land.
Paddle4relief are therefore committed in helping those with wells that require cleaning, repairing and improving so as to ensure as many individuals within the community have access to clean drinking water.
